Volumes: There were apparently at least two competing city directories for a while. Since in the same year they had the same title, I have indicated the compiler in order to distinguish between the volumes from which the information is taken. In the more recent years, there was also a residential directory which was arranged by street address.

Other years: There are more recent years available, but I didn't include them, thinking that almost forty years was a suitable cushion for privacy. If you are interested in more current listings, please contact me and I will check for you. Not all years are available.

Women: For a very long time, women were only listed when single or widowed. From 1916 through 1960, wives were listed parenthetically after their husband's names.

Occupations: Throughout all the years an occupation code followed the person's name. I have substituted the fuller listing for the code throughout.

Advertising: There was an advertising component in some entries: some were in larger sizes or had extra information. I have atttemped to reproduce such listings.

Search criteria: I searched for all VW name variants, including Von-prefix listings and entries which may have indicated a Van/Von prefix such as Wert, John V.

Accuracy: In general over all years I found a fair number of typos. For example, a long-time listing of Van Wart became Van Mart for several years in the index. Yet when I checked in the residential portion of the same volume, the person was again listed as Van Wart.
